Shadow of the Crescent Blade Introduction

knightmore February 2, 2025

The moon waxes and wanes, but tonight we speak of the full moon, for this story takes place on a night when the moon was round and luminous. On this night, the moon was more beautiful than usual—mysterious, hauntingly so, and so heartbreakingly lovely that it could shatter one’s soul.
This story, too, is like that moon: filled with a mysterious and beautiful allure, brimming with enchanting and fantastical imaginings. In an ancient and mystical legend, it is said that whenever the moon rises, spirits emerge with its light—spirits of flowers and trees, spirits of jade and stone, and even the wandering souls and fox spirits from beneath the earth. They come to worship the full moon and absorb its essence.

Sometimes, they even take on human form, appearing in the mortal world in various guises, doing things that people could never anticipate.
These deeds can astonish, move, terrify, delight, or even defy imagination. They can rescue someone from the depths of an abyss or push another off the peak of a mountain.
They can grant you all the glory and wealth in the world, or strip you of everything you hold dear.
Though no one has ever seen their true faces, no one can deny their existence.
